Description
Join us on September 17th as we kick off our Fall programs. In the face of constant change, challenged economic conditions and fierce competition, organizations face great adversity on a daily basis. There are practical tools for building resiliency that prove invaluable for employees, leaders, and customers alike. Resilience may be a hot topic these days, but popular culture is just catching up to what psychologists have been studying for decades. This research has explored why some people (children, soldiers, employees) are seemingly invincible to adversity, and how this “ordinary magic” can be taught to greater populations.

Research tells us there are a number of resilience competencies we can build to better prepare ourselves for adversity of all shapes and sizes. These competencies include: emotional awareness and regulation, impulse control, optimism, flexible and accurate thinking, empathy and connection, as well as self-efficacy. With programs such as the Master Resilience Training Project in the US Army and the Penn Resiliency Program in schools around the world, there is a growing body of research and application that can point to strategies for organizations who wish to engage in building resiliency in their workforce.

This session will explore practical tools such as the ABC Model and Thinking Traps, useful in supporting individuals to build their resilience.

Facilitator: Andrew Soren, MAPP, CPCC

Andrew is a graduate of, and Assistant Instructor at, the University of Pennsylvania's internationally renowned Master of Applied Positive Psychology. A certified leadership coach, Andrew is passionate about meaning, culture and community. He started his career producing theatre and dance in Toronto, and then moved into the corporate world. For the past decade, Andrew has worked for BMO Financial Group. After managing some of the company’s largest sponsorships in the arts, sports, and cause marketing, he made the transition to leadership development, designing initiatives to change the culture of the bank, and training thousands of managers in coaching and applied behavioural science. Currently, Andrew works in Talent Management for BMO as Senior Advisor, Leadership Development Strategies. He’s responsible for what the future of leadership at the bank needs to look like and how to make that vision a reality.
